USA:
For eight years, Julian was Artistic Director of Soho Rep, New York - a multiple
Obie winning downtown theatre in Manhattan. Soho Rep produced new work by American
Playwights including: Erin Cressida Wilson, Len Jenkin, Mac Wellman, David
Lindsay Abaire, The Blue Man Group, Eric Overmyer and Wendy McLoud's ‘House
of Yes' with Allison Janney.
He
also directed at regional theatres including Yale Rep and
the Actor's Theatre of Louisville, as well as Off-off Broadway
(including ‘Serves You Right' written by Steve Buscemi);
Off- and on Broadway (‘Faulkner's Bicycle starring
Kim Hunter). His operatic productions include From the
House of the Dead, Wozzeck, Il Tabburro and Vollo Di Notte
all for Long Beach Opera in California and most recently
Messalina at Battagniano.
UK:
Julian was Associate Director for Stephen Daldry's award winning production
of ‘An Inspector Calls' where he was responsible for three successful
national tours of the UK as well as five recasts for the West End. Julian was
also Associate Director at Liverpool Playhouse, where his production of Steinbeck's ‘Mice
and Men' toured nationally. He recently wrote and directed ‘The Three
Musketeers' at the Young Vic Theatre , which was nominated for a Barclay's
Theatre Award in 2002.
Julian's
first play has just work shopped at the Bristol Old Vic
Theatre and his latest project is a TV programme in development
with the Dixie Chicks at the Firm Entertainment CA.
Julian
was as Special Unit Director on ‘Bridget Jones: Edge
of Reason' for Working Title Films.
Julian
has taught at N.Y.U, Julliard and RADA
Julian
is currently directing The shape of Things by Neil Labute
shortly opening in Plymouth in March and arriving in the
West End in May.
