ELTON JOHN (Composer)
Sir Elton John is one of the great musical and cultural
icons of our time. Elton John and Bernie Taupin stand
at the forefront of the great tradition of the songwriting
alliance. After an astonishing succession of 13 albums
between 1970-76, they have weathered brilliantly, sharing
a common conviction that fashion refuses to forget
a great song.
Elton
John has composed the music for two hit musicals, both
written with Tim Rice; "THE LION KING" which
first hit Broadway in 1997 and "AIDA" in 2000.
Together they won an Academy Award for Best Song for
"THE LION KING" and a Tony Award for Best Original
Musical with "AIDA". Apart from his work
on BILLY ELLIOT, Elton is also writing a musical based
on the novel, "THE
VAMPIRE LESTAT" by Anne Rice.
Over
the next three years, Elton is performing a series
of shows in Las Vegas with his universally acclaimed
show, "THE RED PIANO" directed by David LaChapelle.
Elton has sold over two hundred million records, his
new studio album is due out later in the year and follows
his acclaimed "SONGS FROM THE WEST COAST" album. |
